Have Red Suit and Beard- Will Travel- Call “Santa Howard”.
To some, he is known as Papa Noel or Father Christmas- in the beautiful Hamlet of Bloomfield, Connecticut he is known simply as “Santa Howard”.
For the second year, Howard Steven Frydman, GM of BATV and Secretary of the Bloomfield Board of Education is donning his red suit, trimming his real white beard and traveling the State of Connecticut- spreading the good will of the season to children of all ages.
During the last few days preceding Christmas, “Santa Howard” served as the Official Santa for the City of Hartford’s Festival of Lights, and received a special holiday greeting by Hartford’s Mayor Pedro E. Segarra and his staff. The Festival of Lights is sponsored annually by the City of Hartford’s Department of Health and Human Services. Over 300 children, from the age of three months and upward, along with their parents, waited in line to meet Santa, have their picture taken, and ask for that one special Christmas gift- be it a bike, doll, dinosaur, or Easy Bake oven.
An additional sojourn brought him on Saturday, back to Bloomfield, and the home of author- Lucy Anne Hurston- (whose Aunt was Harlem Renaissance Author Zora Neale Hurston) and a house full of the most well behaved children “Santa Howard” has ever met!
It was three years ago that Lucy’s granddaughter, Zora, wrote a letter to “Santa Howard” stating how she and all her friends believed in the “Man from the North Pole” and cordially asked for him to make a special visit to meet her, her friends and extended family. During “Santa Howard’s most recent visit, Zora and Lucy Hurston prepared freshly sautéed carrots, mixed nuts and a cheese fondue for the reindeer, and a baked lasagna, spiral ham, bbq meatballs and numerous baked goodies for Santa.
Following his visit with Zora and Lucy, “Santa Howard” was heard to exclaim, “Happy Holidays to all- and to all Goodnight”!
