The Howard- FOX61 Visits Bloomfield Village Pizza

FOX61 VISITS BLOOMFIELD VILLAGE PIZZA FOR THEIR “FOODIE FRIDAY”

Howard Steven Frydman and Antoinette Toni Gooley

As many of you know, one of my all time favorite restaurants in the beautiful hamlet of Bloomfield, Connecticut is “Bloomfield Village Pizza” owned and operated by the husband and wife team of Stavros Livanis and his wife, “The Empress Of Pizza” herself Chef Maria Rosu Livanis. Besides their world class pizza, they are also becoming well known for their weekly Frutti Di Mare- “Friday Fish Fry”. Chef Maria – is a true “world” chef with her influences coming from such countries including those of Greece, Romania and USA – her food – is fit for the royalty in all of us!!

Both Stravos and Maria are super special people- as a “townie”, I not only enjoy their freshly made pizzas, wings, fish platters, grinders and their whole roster of mouth watering cuisine, but their friendship – and like so many of our residents know, these two should also be recognized and honored for their quiet generosity to so many. Throughout the year they make numerous donations of food to our town schools, most recently to the BHS 100 year anniversary, provide home deliveries of food care packages to those just out of the hospital and in need, and hiring so many of our town’s young folks, giving them their very first job opportunity. So how do you repay someone who does so much for our community?

Well things work out for the best in the strangest ways- give a listen! By happenstance, I was having diner with my best pal, Miss Antoinette “Toni” Gooley” at the one and only Bloomfield Village Pizza about a week ago Friday when “Toni” remarked, “ Howard, I just heard that FOX 61 in Hartford is planning their next “Foodie Friday” segment and they chose for their next stop-Bloomfield- and they are asking folks to suggest a restaurant to feature”! According to Toni Gooley, each week FOX61 reporter, Sean Pragano and his camera crew visit a local restaurant and showcase them live on Friday morning starting at 6am. Toni looked at me I looked at her- a lightbulb went off in both our heads! You got it – Why not feature “Bloomfield Village Pizza” as a “Foodie Friday” and represent our home town of Bloomfield,

That very same Friday night, as Toni and I both finished our “Friday Fish Fry”- overflowing platters of fresh baked Haddock, hand cut sweet potato fries, garden salad and home made coleslaw we began our writing campaign to nominate Bloomfield Village Pizza as this weeks Foodie Friday guest on this weeks FOX61program. Within a week we sent in several direct missives – “The Empress of Pizza seeks an Audience with Sir Sean” and our reasons why Bloomfield Village Pizza should be chosen “F. F.” to their FOX61 website, their Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts. And then on the last day, knowing we had both done good, Toni and I sat back, did a final prayer and waited for divine intervention.

Six days passed and no word. Finally around midnight on Wednesday, I received a frantic-call from “The Empress” herself-Maria Rosu- with the wonderful exciting news that indeed FOX61 was coming to Bloomfield this Friday, and the restaurant of choice – “Bloomfield Village Pizza” – showcasing their authentic Italian cuisine and introducing our friend and neighbor, Chef Maria Rosu not only to Connecticut but to the world. My friend Toni – you and I did a good thing!!

Bloomfield Village Pizza is located at 34 Tunxis Avenue in Bloomfield, Connecticut. For call ahead reservations, to place an order, or to speak directly with Empress Maria Rosu call 860-242-3339.
