“The world has certainly changed in the past 4 weeks – but good things just don’t end- I am proud to say, I have the best friends in this world, I have the most amazing customers, and with their kind help – Bloomfield Village Pizza continues on better than ever”, remarks Chef Maria Rosu. “We at the restaurant want to do our share to also help our community as well by providing those on the frontlines of the Coronavirus with hot “to go” meals”. Chef Maria continues, “We are currently assisting Bloomfield first responders, on duty nurses, doctors, and firemen with complimentary off the menu food items from the restaurant till this health emergency is over – all they have to do is call us”.
Since March 16th, in an effort to stem the rising tide of the COVID-19 Pandemic outbreak, Connecticut’s Governor Ned Lamont had joined the governors of New York and New Jersey in ordering a mass shutdown of bars, hair salons, gyms, movie theaters and restaurants. However, many restaurants, such as Bloomfield Village Pizza, have been allowed to continue to offer takeout and delivery, as they implement new stringent social distancing practices.
“It’s important to me and my family that we continue to come to our small, centrally located restaurant, in Bloomfield, Connecticut, and provide food and support to our many customers” states Chef Maria . “My husband Stratos, my sister Lori, our family and small staff, -we still arrive early, make our fresh pizza dough, and other Greek specialties, and strive to continue as best we can – business as usual – but as many know – it’s simply not the same, and won’t be for a long time”!
According to Chef Maria, “Safety of my staff and customers is paramount, from the minute I heard about this terrible virus, we made sure all of our staff were equipped with masks, gloves, and set up all new safety and health protocols, repeatedly disinfecting surfaces, and emphasizing effective hand hygiene and social distancing. Regarding ordering food at the restaurant, we ask that you either order online at our website, or call and pay by credit card in advance, set a time for pickup, drive to the restaurant and our staff will place your food items in your car’s trunk and then drive safely away. For home delivery- drivers go “non-contact” and leave deliveries left at the door without any direct interaction.
“Most importantly, I want to make sure that I thank all of my customers for their continued patronage, loyalty, and support, for it is heartwarming to note how generous everyone is – I do have some amazing customers that support my business”, exclaims Chef Maria. And I also want to sincerely apologize to those customers who may have a delay in receiving their orders. I hope they understand, and we are striving to do our best under the current circumstances.”
Though the main restaurant and bar are currently closed per order of the Governor – yet during these past several weeks, the phones continue to ring as usual at Bloomfield Village Pizza as numerous homebound customers utilize the restaurant to order such specialities, including, baked lasagna, chicken parmigiana, stuffed shells, fresh signature grinders, seafood platters – fried or baked haddock, scallops, colossal shrimps, and freshly made pastas and of course all types of flavored chicken wings.
A new norm is for customers to purchase several items at one time, some to eat and enjoy now and second orders to freeze and enjoy later. But the one thing many folks can simply not do without, are the fresh hot from the oven “Golden Amber” pizza pies that are the hallmark of Bloomfield Village Pizza.
